Why Proteins Are Important!

   Proteins are very important for your body, and especially if you trying to lose weight.
   Protein is the actual raw construction material for body cells like bricks are for a building. Body structures made from protein include skin, hair, nails, bones, connective tissue and muscle.
   Next to water, protein is the most abundant substance in your body, making up approximately 15-20% of your weight. Of  interest to people who want to gain muscle and lose fat is the fact that 60-70% of all protein in the body is located in skeletal muscles.

   The smallest units of a protein are called amino acids. Like bricks in a wall, amino acids are "the building blocks of protein."
   There are 20 amino acids that are required for growth by the human body.
   Out of the twenty amino acids, the human body can make eleven of them. These are called the non-essential amino acids (Also known as dispensable amino acids). The other nine amino acids are called "essential amino acids." Essential amino acids are those which can't be manufactured by your body and must be supplied from your food.
   Protein isn't just found in meat, eggs and milk. There's also protein in vegetables, beans, legumes, and grains. However, the protein in these foods is not considered "complete" because it lacks one or more of the essential amino acids.
   The complete proteins are those that come from animal sources such as eggs, milk and meat.
   Complete lean proteins sources:
     * Chicken breast
     * Turkey breast
     * Fish
     * Shellfish
     * Eggs (Mostly whites-use limited yolks)
     * Lean red meats (Top round, lean sirloin, flank)
     * Non-fat or low fat dairy products

Some Help in Eating Right

I've been harping about eating right and exercising for a while now. I am trying to practice what I preach and have been fairly successful so far.  Below you will find some tips that will hopefully help you get started on the path to good cellular health.

As you may know, not fueling up with the right nutrients can affect how well your body performs and your overall fitness.  Even though healthy eating is important, there are myths that can hinder your performance if you listen to them.

Below, you'll find some myth busters on healthy eating.

1.  Working out on an empty stomach.
If you hear a rumbling noise in your stomach, the rumbling is trying to tell you something.  Without listening to them, you are forcing your body to run without any fuel.  Before you exercise or do any physical activity, always eat a light snack such as an apple or a banana.

2.  Relying on energy bars and drinks.
Although they are fine every once in a while, they don't deliver the antioxidants you need.  Fruits and vegetables are your best bets, since they are loaded in vitamins, minerals, fluid, and fiber.

3.  Skipping breakfast.
Skipping breakfast is never a good idea, as breakfast starts the day.  Your body needs fuel as soon as possible, and without it, you'll be hungry throughout the day. Make your breakfast a complete meal. 

4.  Low carb diets.
Your body needs carbohydrates for your muscles and storing of energy. 

5.  Eating what you want.
Eating healthy and exercising doesn't give you an all access pass to eat anything you want.  Everyone needs the same nutrients whether they exercise or
not, as well as fruits and vegetables.

6.  Not enough calories
Although losing weight involves calories, losing it too quickly is never safe.  What you should do is aim for 1 - 2 pounds a week.  Always make sure that you are getting enough calories to keep your body operating smoothly.  If you start dropping weight too fast, eat more food.

7.  Skip soda and alcohol.
Water, milk, and juice is the best to drink for active people.  You should drink often, and not rely on thirst to be an indicator.  By the time you get thirsty, your body is already running low.

Changing how you eat will affect how your body performs.  The healthier you eat, the better you'll feel.  No matter how old you are, healthy eating is something you should strive for.  Once you give it a chance, you'll see in no time at all just how much it can change your life for the better.

Being a healthy eater requires you to become both educated and smart about what healthy eating actually is.  Being food smart isn't about learning to calculate grams or fat, or is it about studying labels and counting calories.

Healthy eating is all about balanced and moderate eating consisting of healthy meals at least three times per day.  Healthy eaters eat many different types of foods, not limiting themselves to one specific food type or food group.

Eating healthy requires a lot of leeway.  You should always fuel your body and your brain regularly with enough food to keep both your mind and body strong and alert.

A healthy eater is a good problem solver.  Healthy eaters have learned to take care of themselves.  Healthy eaters are always aware of what they eat and know the effect that it will have on their bodies.

When someone is unable to take control of their eating they are also likely to get out of control with other aspects of life.  

You should always remember that restricting food in any way is a bad thing.  Healthy eating is a way of life, something that you can do to enhance your body or your lifestyle.  If you've thought about making your life better, healthy eating is the place to start.  You'll make life easier for yourself, those around you, and your family! Weight Loss Really Can Be Simple

I know, I know! It's really tough to lose weight and keep it off. Let's look at this logically and think about where to start. Let's start with you! Yea, you! I can talk about losing weight till I'm blue in the face and you won't lose an ounce. You can read all the experts advice, listen to your doctor, watch a thousand exercise videos, and buy products from every infomercial that promises weight loss and you still won't lose anything except out of your bank account. You have to decide you want it and you're ready to start. When you are ready, here are some things that may help.

The best way is to start slowly, and then gradually start adding more to the things you do everyday to use more calories than you take in.


1. Believe it! Have you heard the expression: "Think yourself thin?" There is actually some truth to this. Your thoughts can help you
burn more body fat.If you really think you can, you will be more motivated to do what it requires to go thru with your weight loss
program.


2. Do one more thing everyday that will burn more calories. Walk more, order smaller portions, drink more water.


3. Get social. Ask your best friend to join you on those afternoon walks. It will be easier to do them and much more fun.


4. Make it a competition. Get some friends to join you in your weight loss program, and make it a competition. Who
can burn the most body fat? I personally have Dorothy and Ed helping me.


5. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Bring fruits with you to work and skip that greasy meal.

Weight Loss Can Be Simple!

Oh sure, simple! NOT! I have lost 12 pounds in about 4 months and it wasn't simple or easy. I did it by watching what I eat (mostly cut out sugar), exercising (something I very seldom did before), and using a little common sense.

Losing weight is a dilemma for many people. In fact, there are a lot of diet system and weight loss medicines available. There has been so much negative feedback about most of these diet systems and weight loss medications that most people are still seeking the best solution.

Some of the things I did follow. 

Since the procedures are natural, weight loss using this procedure is considered healthy and will make you feel satisfied. Unlike the fad diets and  magic diet programs and medications available today, natural weight loss will teach you how to shed those extra pounds in a proper manner. You will lose weight if you are going to religiously follow a long term but healthy weight loss plan.

• Know what to eat

– It is important that you know whether a certain food on your menu can be a potential harm to your weight loss scheme. Learn how to be critical on what you eat. Avoid too much fried and salty foods.

• Read about natural weight loss

– there are lots of published, both online and in print, about natural weight loss. It would help you to read some of these articles. You can read books or magazines with expert columns about natural weight loss. Online natural weight loss sites are also available.

• Participate on online forums

– yes, there are online communities and forums on the Internet where members talk about natural weight loss.

Happiness is a normal blood test!

Let me preface this with a fact! In November of 2008, I was told I had pre diabetes. Retirement had not been good to me. I had sat in front of the computer and gained weight. I hadn't worked out in ages and was really becoming a couch potato.

This diagnosis woke me up! I started to pay attention to what I ate. I slowly got back to exercising and got back into some things that made me move. I lost some weight ( not enough yet ) but ,more importantly, I found out that being an older baby boomer doesn't need to feel bad!

Thru exercise, good food, supplements (VIBE & EFACOR) the latest blood tests are NORMAL! The old saying applies here. If I can, you can!
